Early history of Linux
About a week ago kerneltrap.org had a great article about the first Linux kernel release, with a couple of Linus's student photos accompanying it. While a great read, it didn't contain anything not widely known, and looked more like a nostalgic leap back to the first days of Linux. But wouldn't you know it, they followed up with another superb account of the early history of the OS, this time talking about the 0.02-0.03 releases. Go have a blast savoring Linus's first unsure (naive?) sentences about the kernel's future ("I can (well, almost) hear you asking yourselves "why?". Hurd will be out in a year (or two, or next month, who knows), and I've already got minix.").

sure, you can find all of Linus's messages to the comp.os.minix, and then comp.os.linux from google's newsgroup archives, but hey, it's nice to skim through a nicely written article as well.
